If you've ever scrolled lash photos and thought "they all look kind of the same to me," you're not alone. Here's the honest breakdown of the four sets I offer at AJ Aesthetics — what each one actually looks like, who it's perfect for, and how to walk into your appointment knowing what to ask for.
The biggest mistake new lash clients make? Saying "just give me whatever looks best" and then being surprised they ended up with a set that's too dramatic, too soft, or too heavy for their lifestyle. Lashes are personal. The right set depends on your natural lash health, your eye shape, and the look you actually want to wake up to.
Let's break them down.
Classic lashes — the natural starter
Classic lashes are exactly what they sound like: one extension applied to one natural lash. The result is a soft, mascara-like enhancement that frames your eyes without screaming "lashes."
Best for:
- First-time lash clients
- Anyone with healthy natural lashes wanting a "you, but better" look
- Professional, low-maintenance styles
- Brides who want a soft, photo-ready finish without drama
The look:
Imagine waking up with the most perfect, never-clumping coat of mascara. That's classic. You can read your eye, you can see your lash line, and people will compliment your "great eyes" without realizing why.
Price: $160 full set · Time: 2 hours · Fill: $70 every 2–3 weeks
Hybrid lashes — the most-booked set
Hybrid is a custom blend of classic and volume techniques in one set. It's the most popular choice for a reason: it gives you dimension and texture without committing to the full drama of volume. Most clients in Stuart who walk in saying "I want something fuller but not too much" end up here.
Best for:
- Clients who want noticeable lashes without going full Kardashian
- Lifted, "wide-eyed" looks
- Anyone whose natural lashes are sparse in some areas (the volume fans fill gaps beautifully)
- Day-to-night versatility — softer makeup or full glam, the set still works
The look:
Dimensional, textured, lifted. People will know you have lashes, but they'll look like the kind of lashes you could have been born with on a really good day.
Price: $185 full set · Time: 2.5 hours · Fill: $80 every 2–3 weeks
If you're new to lashes and not sure what you want — start with hybrid. It's the most flattering on the widest range of eye shapes, it photographs well, and you can always go fuller or softer at your next fill.
Volume lashes — full drama, hand-made
Volume lashes are made by hand-crafting tiny "fans" of 2 to 8 ultra-fine extensions, then applying each fan to a single natural lash. The result is maximum fullness with the lightest possible weight — when done correctly. (Heavy, clumpy "volume" sets you see elsewhere are usually overloaded fans on natural lashes that can't support them. That's where lash damage comes from.)
Best for:
- Clients who already love and live in lashes
- Events, brides, photoshoots, content creators
- Anyone wanting a real statement set
- Sparse or short natural lashes (fans add density without weight)
The look:
Dark lash line, full fluff, undeniable drama. Photographs beautifully. Reads as "lashes" in the best way.
Price: $215 full set · Time: 2.5 hours · Fill: $90 every 2–3 weeks
Angel lashes — the wispy outlier
Angel lashes (sometimes called "wet look" or "Kim K" lashes) are a styled set with spikes — alternating shorter and longer extensions for a wispy, feathery, almost wet effect. They look completely different from a uniform classic or volume set.
Best for:
- Anyone wanting a trend-forward, soft-glam look
- Clients tired of the "uniform" lash look
- Brides wanting something romantic and editorial
The look:
Soft, lifted, slightly piecey — like really good doll lashes. They have personality.
Price: $165 full set · Time: 2.5 hours · Fill: $50 Angel Fill
The cheat sheet
Not sure which set is right for you?
Every lash appointment at AJ Aesthetics starts with a complimentary lash mapping consult. I'll look at your eye shape, natural lash health, and recommend the perfect set.
Book Your Lash ConsultHow to actually choose
Three honest questions to ask yourself before your appointment:
- How much makeup do I usually wear? If you live in a soft beat or no makeup, classic blends right in. If you do a full face most days, hybrid or volume will hold their own.
- How much maintenance can I commit to? Every set needs a fill every 2 to 3 weeks. Bigger sets need more careful aftercare (no oil-based cleansers, no rough sleeping, daily lash cleansing).
- What's the most-photographed version of me? Brides going for a soft veil-and-pearls vibe usually love classic or angel. Brides going Vegas weekend usually love volume. Both are right; they're just different choices.
"The best lash set is the one that fits the life you already live — not the life you wish your makeup was in."
What about lash lifts?
Worth mentioning: if you love your natural lashes and just want them lifted and tinted (no extensions), a Lash Lift & Tint is your move. It's $100, takes 60 minutes, and gives you 6 to 8 weeks of low-maintenance, naturally lifted lashes. Great as a "trial run" before committing to extensions.
One last thing — retention
Whatever set you choose, the difference between a lash set that lasts 4 weeks and one that lasts 6 is almost always aftercare: foaming lash cleanser daily, no oil-based products near your eyes, no rubbing, and waking up on your back (or a silk pillowcase). I send every client home with a full aftercare guide and a free spoolie. Retention is on me; aftercare is on you.
